Freebies for New Kiddies in the Netherlands

A baby is the best present you can get but it’s always fun to receive some additional gifts. Read on to know what surprises you can get in addition to your baby in the Netherlands.

First, you can apply for benefits from the government and receive a couple of hundred Euros every quarter of a year until the kid turns 16 or 18 (depending on what education path they’re following check the link above for more details).

Also, don’t forget to ask for a Kraampaket from your insurance. This is mine from De Amersfoortse (sorry for the bad quality, it’s always a challenge to make photos with little kids around).

In addition, some Dutch stores offer free baby boxes with goodies for babies and mommies. The goodies are accompanied with some paper spam and discounts on products you’ve never wanted but there are good things inside as well, and even the boxes are good too (for toys storage, for instance). The boxes change every now and then, below you’ll find what I’ve got and you can have an idea what’s inside.

Prenatal and the “Happy box” (De Blije Doos)

It is one of the most famous shops with baby staff. Inside their baby box you can find a pack of Pampers size1, an Avent bottle, a Bibi pacifier/ dummy, a cute and nice baby tooth brush, newborn socks, alcohol free beer and some paper spam and discounts for mommy and baby. 

Register to receive your “Happy box” (De Blije Doos) while you’re pregnant. And after the baby is born, you can get a free baby cap with their name on it if you register them until the 6th month birthday.

Blokker and its Ouders van Nu Zwangerbox (Pregnancy Box)

Register within 6 months after the baby is born and get a nice box with presents at Blokker. In the picture below you can see what I got, now (unless they changed again) you get a Difrax pacifier/ dummy, romper, mama belly balm, Jills 0%, and of course, magazines and flyers.

Hallo Mama from Jumbo

Before birth you can get a pregnancy diary from the shop. Great idea but there are so many ads inside that I ended up not using it.

The main gift you can get after the baby is born. The box itself is great for toys storage and inside you can find a soft toy (which my kid loves), 2 newborn diapers/ nappies, nice cards for photoshoots, pads for mommy, fragrant plastic bags for diapers/ nappies and informational brochures.

UPDATE: it seems that Jumbo stopped giving the boxes but you never know, maybe they’ll start again. Keep googling for it now and then.

Kruidvat Baby & Mama bag

Go to Kruidvat store and get a card and a package of gifts: a big shopper bag; Kruidvat NewBorn diapers/ nappies, size 0 or 1; Kruidvat Baby 2 in 1 washing gel, 300 ml; Kruidvat Lotion wipes 80 pcs; 5 free foto prints.

Baby dump offers a big box with goodies but I couldn’t review it because going to pick up a heavy box at a shop so far away is not something you want to do being heavily pregnant. However, I wanted to include it as well in case there’s a store near you or you don’t mind traveling a bit.

So, according to the information I’ve gathered, the Baby dump box includes: a soft toy, a romper, a t-shirt “baby on board’ to hang in the car, baby cups and storage cups, baby spoons.

Supermarket Plus also offers a free baby box Kiekeboebox. Sign up for it until your baby turns 2 months old and surprise yourself with a 40 Euro worth gift.

Sign up for the library for free

For children under 18 the library membership is free. Moreover, our local library gives a present when you sign up your fresh baby to their library. They give a little carton case with 2 baby books inside. Does your library do the same?
